We own and preserve the 460-acre Rhododendron Preserve in central Kitsap County, one of the largest remaining examples of Puget Sound lowland old-grow forest in the Puget Sound basin.

Join us July 25 for workparty on the Rhododendron Preserve

The Foundation now owns the historic Hidden Ranch property and is working to clean it up. Please join us on Sunday, July 25th for a workparty to restore this beautiful property and add it to the Rhododendron Preserve. Read about the rich history of the Preserve, Hidden Ranch, and the Mountaineers in the area. |

We will be doing the following work;
- Mowing pathways through the fields of grass
- Identifying and labeling native and landscaping plants
- Mapping gardens throughout the valley
- Disassembling a small greenhouse
- Loading burn piles into barrels for disposal
- Using loppers or chainsaws to girdle the ivy around trees
- Reviewing personal belongings and recommending options for keeping or giving away appropriate items (particularly if you knew Patience Paschall)
- Removing ivy from several small buildings
- Providing drinks and snacks for volunteers (we'll buy)
- Hosting a thank you BBQ for all volunteers (we'll buy the goodies) at the end of the da
Be sure to:
- Dress for the weather
- Wear sturdy footwear
- Bring a pair of work gloves
- Bring a lunch and water
- Join us for dinner after the work is done
2010 Grant Awards
The Mountaineers Foundation is proud to announce our grant awards for the first half of 2010. We have provided the Mountaineers with a whopping $178,587 in grant awards already this year, including grants for Kitsap Youth Theater Camp, the Trailhead and Youth Naturalists programs, Climbing ementities at the Program Center at Magnuson Park, improvements to the Snoqualmie Campus, and a program to promote an electronic version of the Go Guide. The 2010 awards through our Community Grants program benefited such organizations as the Forest Service Employees for Env Ethics, the MountainLoop Conservancy, and the Washington Wilderness Coalition.
